Looking your best feels great at any age. Hence, investing in skincare is one of the best things you can do, and the earlier you start, the better.

However, aging is inevitable. Regardless of your consistency in religiously practicing your skincare routine, fine lines and wrinkles will start to appear when you reach your late 20s to early 30s. There is a viable solution, though.

Aesthetic treatments, particularly wrinkle relaxers such as Botox® and Xeomin®, make it possible to reduce -and in some cases, prevent- the appearance of facial wrinkles without surgery or downtime.

Intrigued? Read on to know which wrinkle relaxer is ideal for you.

What is Botox®?

Botox® cosmetic is a form of botulinum toxin. As a wrinkle relaxer, it works by temporarily preventing facial muscles from contracting and thus forming lines and creases on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and the crow’s feet near the eyes.

Botox® treatments are FDA-approved and are considered by some to be the gold standard for relaxing dynamic lines and wrinkles caused by constant muscle movement.

A Botox® procedure can take as little as five minutes. Generally speaking, it’s a quick and relatively painless treatment, save for some minimal bruising and minor soreness in the injection site.

What is Xeomin®?

Xeomin®, on the other hand, is also an injectable neurotoxin that helps reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles caused by dynamic facial movements such as raising your eyebrows, frowning, or smiling.

Just like Botox®, Xeomin® can also prevent frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead creases from forming when used as a form of prejuvenation.

Additionally, it’s also FDA-approved to treat everything from boxy jawlines to gummy smiles.

Botox® vs. Xeomin®

Wrinkle relaxers like Botox® and Xeomin® are recommended by qualified providers to patients who primarily want to address and/or prevent existing and new fine lines and wrinkles.

Undoubtedly, these two injectables share many similarities. They both address moderate to severe frown lines and they relax facial muscles by temporarily blocking nerves that cause muscle contractions, which result in wrinkles over time.

However, there are also some key differences that make Xeomin® stand out. These include:

Ingredients

Xeomin® is actually made without the additional proteins that can be found in Botox®.

In some patients, especially those who’ve built up a tolerance for injectables, these proteins may cause the body not to respond as well as it should to Botox®.

As a result, some patients get better results with Xeomin® since these proteins aren’t present in its formulation.

Effectiveness

As mentioned previously, Xeomin® has a purer toxin formulation that is less likely to cause resistance. In fact, other doctors have reported that they found Xeomin® to work better for patients who were largely unresponsive to other neurotoxins.

Cost

Botox® and Xeomin® appear to have similar effects for smoothing out wrinkles and fine lines. However, Xeomin® tends to be slightly more affordable compared to Botox®, in general.

Thus, if you go with Xeomin®, you can potentially get the same results without spending as much.

As with any aesthetic treatment, however, it’s always better to consult with a qualified professional beforehand to see what would work best for you.
